Report Hidden Ticket Fees in Minnesota

Please use this form to report instances where you believe a ticket seller in Minnesota has violated the state's Deceptive Trade Practices Act regarding ticket pricing, effective January 1, 2025. This law requires that the advertised, displayed, or offered price for a ticket must include all mandatory fees or surcharges that are unavoidable for the consumer, also known as "Junk Fees"

Important Information About Junk Fees Under Minnesota Law

  • What are Junk Fees?
Junk Fees are any fees or surcharges that aren’t included in the advertised ticket price but are unavoidable if you want to buy the ticket.

  • What’s required under the law?
The price that’s advertised must include all mandatory fees and surcharges — anything you have to pay that a reasonable person would expect to be part of the total cost.

  • What fees are not considered Junk Fees?
Examples of fees that generally do not count as Junk Fees include:

    • Credit card processing fees, if you have a reasonable alternative like paying with cash.

    • Clearly disclosed and legally required mandatory gratuities.

  • Can businesses still add fees?
Yes — businesses can still charge fees or surcharges. The law just requires that the total price, including unavoidable fees, must be clearly shown up front.

  • Who is collecting complaints?
The Minnesota Attorney General’s Office, in partnership with North Star Prosperity, is gathering reports to help enforce the new law.
